Match Report

Late cry offs left us one short for the trip to Hurst Green, for what turned out to be a close game. A maiden fifty from PRV Burr was the highlight of a competitive 186. He was well supported by Chand and Richard supplemented by a late onslaught from Spud. Hurst Green made a good fist of the chase and for some time looked favourites to overhaul the target. Mike was again impressive opening the bowling, but we were unable to take wickets when needed and Hurst Green gradually edged towards the target. A fine piece of fielding from Simon proved to be the turning point, as he turned and threw down the wicket of their best bat. Even then the game was not completely over, with the lower order happy to continue the chase. Gordon — as ever keen for a close finish — decided a succession of wides mixed with the usual dross he bowls would ensure that the carrot was left dangling.
