Match Report

Richard recorded a third successive fifty on the beautiful Leigh Village Green, but was overshadowed by a thumping 79 from Chand. For those that he hasn't phoned already it was a very good innings. The pitch was hard and true and the outfield fast, which made run scoring easy. On studying their scorebook totals of 240+ had been overhauled, so Spud opted for caution in his declaration total of 230-6 in just 35.4 overs. It was good to see TC getting himself in the runs as well, supporting Chand in a partnership that netted 92 runs for the 4th wicket. Spud's caution appeared well founded, as Leigh's openers had little difficulty slapping openers Burr and Taylor around the green (then again who has had difficulty). It was left to the spin pairing of Whale and Schultz to do the damage, each taking four wickets. Gordon in particular was using flight to good effect. Leigh to their credit never gave up the chase and would possibly have held out for a draw, but for the earlier maiming of one of their junior players by the Bully Oz, which left them batting one short.
