Match Report
Sunday 6 July –v- Westcombe Parkers at Greenwich Park
A big Greenwich Park crowd were kept waiting by the search for a missing stump before our match with the Parkers could get underway, which gave Spud plenty of time to debate the choice of batting or bowling first. With Wilsy a strong supporter for taking first knock, Spud had little hesitation in opting to bowl. Moysey was first to strike, with a very woody sounding LBW appeal being upheld, whilst Spud dried the runs up from the other end in a miserly spell. Parental duties meant the Skip was absent for the tumbling of wickets that ensued with the introduction of Lewis into the attack. On his return Parkers were struggling at 70-6, with Steve’s tweakers being described as ‘Troosers’ by observers on the boundary edge. Further assisted by good catches from Daz and Gord the oppo innings petered to a modest 107-8 from their allotted overs.
The response was as positive as could be expected. Jim failed again and Chuckles making his 100th appearance failed by exactly 100 to record a century, for what could have been a memorable occasion. Spud had to carry out the second instalment of his Parental Duties and was absent for a quick-fire 12 from Sumo, some elegant strokes from Darkie and a load of complete toilet from both Gord and Tubby. At 50-6 the game appeared in the balance, but a ‘dashing’ unbeaten stand of 58 between that redoubtable pair Moyse and Lewis ensured there were no further alarms.
It was then off to The Richard I for splendid Youngs and a debate on Vasectomy.
