Match Report
Our second visit to Bellingham was a far more peaceful affair, with no fighting footballers or Police sirens to interrupt the sound of leather on willow. Bill called correctly and opted to take first knock on what appeared to be an under-prepared strip and the opening exchanges seemed to support that theory. Grenfell wiped out the ‘Mighty’ Crusaders upper order, including The Skip for a duck and only Neil Clark showed the stomach (fairly appropriate) for a fight. Crusaders were indebted to a cautious unbeaten 71 from Darren, that received valuable support from Spud and Neil Morrison; a recovery that led to a target of xxx being posted.
Crusaders took control with the ball through fine spells from Martin (3-24) and Whale (2-12) and Grenfell settled on trying to save rather than win the game. Billy was in uncompromising mood, keeping his leading bowlers in the attack, which offered little bait to the opposition. Jim added a couple more wickets but time and overs were against us allowing Finch and De Marzo to bat out to stumps, with Grenfell finishing at 89-8.
