Match Report
Brasted and Sundridge struggled to get a full compliment for our first visit to a pleasant ground at the opposite end of the village from Brasted Invicta, eventually mustering nine players. Bill was in no mood for charity and opted to bat, a decision he was soon to regret. His soft dismissal – a dreadful shot that spooned gently back to the bowler – started an alarming tumbling of wickets. With Timms, Schultz, Cook and Braithwaite contributing virtually nothing to the score Crusaders soon found themselves five wickets down and only 21 on the board.
The recovery was led by a stand of fifty between top scorer Steve Lewis (31) and Sumo, with Neil hoicking a huge six in his contribution of 15. Jim (28) and Moysey (22) continued the good work, leading to a fairly respectable 126 being posted.
It was soon apparent that Brasted’s strength was in their bowling, as they struggled to deal with penetrative spells from Darren, Jim and Spud; 21 overs that gave up a miserly 45 runs. Players that Moysey couldn’t remove legitimately were treated to a barrage of intimidatory bowling, with the unfortunate Sanders struck on the elbow and hospitalised by a bouncer. Apparently he was due to start a new job the next day and was not amused.
Suitably softened up Brasted’s tail was mopped up by the flighty shite of Timms and Morrison.
