Match Report

26 July -v- Grenfell at Old Brockleians
Still unbeaten, Crusaders looked to at least consolidate their impressive run, against a strong Grenfell side. GT,PB and Tongue displaced the hopelessly out of form trio, of Martin, Makker and Chucks and after losing the toss we found ourselves put in on a lethal looking track.
Strong dressing room discontent and the non-arrival of Darkie, forced the skipper into some controversial rearrangement to the pecking order. For the first time in living memory, we opened with a husband and wife combination, hoping that Limp and The Lip's "special friendship' would translate into runs on the scoreboard. Bill continued his remorseless gallop toward the Duck Trophy, with another faultless display in ineptitude and the arrival of Fat Boy Clark did little to raise a gloomy start. Timmo stopped feeling the whole world was against him and at last started applying himself to putting runs on the board Ably supported by a resurgent Duckie, GT saw of the initial attack with sound defence and then set about the support bowlers with some boisterous big hitting. A stand of 66 swung the game back in our favour and despite the weekly tumble of mid-order wickets (two Dutch Day Trippers included) a late run chase, firstly enabled Slack to complete an excellent ton and latterly, allowed us to post a healthy target of 162.Big Six Jim and the third angle of the Dutch connection were our not out batsmen. A fair tea, served by a large breasted blonde lady, was the ideal accompaniment to Mansell winning another Grand Prix and England attempting to throw away the Test series. Daz and Darth started brightly and ensured our total would remain difficult to breach with an eighteen over stint that took us to 6.30, with the home side requiring 112 from the final twenty overs. A slightly green behind the gills Danglers made way for a spin attack from Spud. After some initial looseners The Skip eventually found his rhythm and enticing batsmen to get after him was rewarded, through a six wicket haul that almost turned probable draw into dramatic win
Alas, despite another brief sortie from Daz, the sands of time ran away from us and we had to content ourselves with a draw, with the Grenfell last pair stonewalling to 124-9 at the close.
