Match Report

-v- Ash II at Chislehurst 12 May
Prematch
Having discovered that Ash had previously lost to Northdowns, it was decided that GT should take a rest from the rigours of Sunday cricket, in order to replenish his batteries. The enigmatic Lanky McMah000n came into the fray for his first match of the season, but by and large it was the same crowd that had come thus far unbeaten.
Against his better inclination, the skip was bullied into radical alterations to the batting order, so that the middle order that never scored runs, became the top order that would never score runs. With points to prove to the doubting Spud, Webb and Wilsdon gave us the sort of start that we had become accustomed to under the Chucks era. John soon proved that no matter where you put him he'll still make a nonsensical contribution and soon the scorecard had that all too familiar look to it. After Neil, Gordy and the ridiculous Lofty had all departed, it was left (for a change to Darky and Daz to give us a respectable total. Sandwiched between a fine, unbroken 66 stand, were Spud second and The Tongues third ducks of the year. Eventually, with Mark reaching his second fifty of the season, supported by the regular dour knock from Moysey, we groped our way to 125-8 at tea.
It was soon plain to see why Ash had struggled to win matches, as successive batsmen found the pace and nagging accuracy of Daz and Old, too much to bear. It seemed that survival was all that Ash were interested in and although they occupied the crease for 26 overs, not one bat could conjure an effective or aggressive shot. After the initial inroads had been made, Lofty tied up the loose ends with a dynamic spell of 2 for 1 in 6 balls. Perhaps this is what we have been missing?
Surprisingly after such a comprehensive drubbing, Ash were fairly sociable, as we retired to the cosy confines of The Bull garden. It was strongly rumoured that Makkers car was still on Royal Parade the following day
