Match Report

17 May -v- ASDA at Hall Place, Bexley
The Tongue was preferred to the Old Man in an otherwise unchanged side as we encountered new opposition for a second consecutive week. Only Duckie Schultz had trouble meeting the 2.10 deadline as he seemed reluctant to park his car.
It soon became apparent that the raggle taggle outfit that greeted us on the wilderness of Pitch 4 would be no match for the well-oiled machinery of the Crusader bandwagon. The toss was lost again and we were installed on an uneven pitch against an enthusiastic attack. Only Darkie really got to grips with conditions as he anchored an otherwise unspectacular effort. The Lip managed to stick around long enough to feature in a fifty partnership for the third wicket, but it was soon that same old story as the middle order came and went without flexing the scorer’s pencil. At the death only a club record ninth wicket stand of 76 between Daz and Tommy produced a score anything like respectable. We closed on 174-8, a score some would say was 154 runs beyond our oppo. Once again hostile spells from Darth and Danglers had the ASDA batting in tatters. Full scale surrender was soon to follow with the introduction of that wise and wily character Johnny Chucks. It was soon rumoured that he was concealing some kind of grease in his scraggy beard as indignant batsmen fell to unplayable deliveries which were turning in three or four different directions. A last wicket stand of about forty saved total embarrassment for our hosts, as some indifferent bowling from Webb, Davis and Timms was given its just desserts. ASDA were finally dismissed for 87 from just over 26 overs.
The majority of the oppo seemed loathe to join us in the Black Horse, where 6X seemed to be drunk like it was going out of fashion. The ASDA skip sought advice from the reliable source of Timms as to where they could improve their all round game. Play the Parkers seemed his only helpful piece of advice. When the skip left at eight there was a notable absence of car keys on the table, as six of his illustrious side set about drinking themselves into oblivion.
