Match Report
-v- Northdowns 3 May at Raleys Field, Sevenoaks
A late family crisis in the Whale camp, brought an unexpected recall for Steve ‘the tongue’ Davis, to an otherwise unchanged eleven.
Glen Timms took the reins as replacement skipper and on a synthetic strip against a team of knobs was in no doubt over his decision to bat. Mark and John threatened to make nonsense of the Northdowns attack, but eventually John had to face a ball. After his departure it was a long slog involving our inept middle order, who threatened to give modest bowlers sensational figures. Eventually some semblance of order was reached through a record breaking seventh wicket stand of 64 between Danglers and Lardy Wilsdon, which took the total to 115, allowing L.S.C. and Daz just time to add another twenty before tea. Despite a relatively low score to defend, Captain Slack still felt able to open up with the unreliable pairing of Martin and Clements and saw his faith justified as too many Northdowns batsmen could not cope with the combined twaddle that was being served up. After the first six had inexplicably thrown their wickets away, Daz was introduced in an effort to make a game of it, but even he was able to take wickets. Steve Davis took his maiden wicket with a three bouncing yorker, that took care of Northdowns last potential match winner. The innings was rounded off at 119 with two overs to spare, for a far more comfortable victory than the score suggests.
