Match Report
The Grove -v- Crusaders at Hall Place 9 Sept 2.00
In another run feast we failed narrowly to clinch victory in a thrilling match. Opening the innings Spud and GT shared in a record opening stand of 128 to set us on the way to another big score. On a tricky sloping pitch Grove lacked penetration and only 3 wickets fell as we piled up 220 runs. Spud fell seven runs short of back to back tons, while GT fired a rapid 84. The Grove also began brightly with both openers gladly helping themselves to an array of poor balls from Mark S .With Jim bowling accurately, while never threatening to take wickets and Ian Brown doing likewise from the other end, Grove’s confidence mounted. The run glut was eventually slowed with the introduction of the skip, who in a devastating spell returned 6-36.Even though GT latterly tried to throw the game with some more of his chucks the oppo had lost their quick scorers and settled in to earn a draw.
