Match Report
Tuesday 22 June -v- Heavy Rollers at Sutcliffe Park (RAY WILLIS TROPHY)
With GT absent, the call was answered by Andy Pollock to bridge the gap in our bowling ranks, against our old RW adversaries. Heavy Rollers called correctly and selected batting as their preference. Only the new opener showed any sort of form against the lively opening spells of Lardy and AP and as wickets tumbled it became apparent that, either Delroy had lost his marbles, or was injured. Old Man Martin eventually graced us with his presence, in time to remove the opener and subsequently slow the scoring rate down. It was finally safe for the skip to ply his trade against the lower order and supported by excellent keeping from Snip Clark, helped himself to 5-9. Despite the low target set for victory, our task was never underestimated with the accent put firmly on taking quick singles, whilst taking advantage of the loose delivery when it was offered. Darkie and Gordy took directions to the letter, enabling us to immediately gain the offensive. Mark was first to go, but from then on Gord found the sort of purple patch he had only previously seen after spilling blackcurrant drink on his whites. With the skip again batting way out of character, the target was all but achieved by the time Spud lost his wicket. A brief stay from Sumo and it was left to Rhino to give Coco the support he needed, to take us to victory; deservedly claiming the Man of the Match Award for a ‘nearly’ chanceless 35.
