Match Report

Wednesday 29 June -v- Gallions at Sutcliffe Park (RAY WILLIS TROPHY)
In a case of The Chickens against the Very Young Chickens, we proved more experienced, more talented and had probably more pubic hair than our youthful counterparts. Despite an honourable effort from Gallions, we cantered to our fourth league win of the season and maintained our unbeaten record in the preliminaries. Against tidy bowling Mark and Chucks rustled us to 35, before both fell in quick succession. Sumo took up the role of aggressor with an ebullient knock, which has probably prematurely ended some youngster’s belief in the 'noble game'. With Steve settling into his more familiar anchoring role they added 57, before Neil’s impetuosity got the better of him. DT’s arrival at the crease caused an inevitable slowing in the scoring rate and with it the rarely viewed spectacle of two Sea Slugs batting together. The pair compiled an unbeaten stand of 45 to take us to a closing score of 137-3. Gallions response was positive, with each bat having solid technique and a good eye, but it lacked some cohesion and communication. Jim continued with the crud we have become used to, allowing Gallions a glimpse of what might have been, but in Lardy, Limp and Coco, the skip had talent aplenty to foil any notions they had of snatching an improbable victory, The spoils was tied up as early as the fifteenth over, allowing Spud the pleasure of an exquisite over from Ted, which yielded two wickets.
