Match Report

Tuesday 3 August -v- Woolwich Ferry at Avery Hill Park (RAY WILLIS TROPHY Q-F)
Tongue and Lofty were called in at short notice, as we by no means underestimated the threat of the Ferrymen. Nob won the toss and then sat back to squirm at our lack of ability, as we made painstaking work of a mediocre attack. Basic communication seemed our major weakness, with countless singles passed up. Johnny Chucks added to his increasing catalogue of silly dismissals, when he foolishly went for a third (Called by Darkie) with the ball already heading for the leather of the keepers gloves. After Darkie’s departure there was a gradual improvement, which concluded with a rip-roaring sixth wicket run fiesta between Rhino and ‘Tall Trees’ McMahon, who after much searching, appeared to have found a pedestal from which to show his cricketing talent; Makker out to the final ball of the innings, sharing in a stand of 47 in just 27 balls. Although the end product was satisfactory and a total of 150 high enough for us to defend the manner in which it was produced, showed what major work is still required.
Lardy and Silver Fox effectively put the game beyond Ferry with an eight over burst, that netted Chris 3 victims, before the skip was afforded the luxury of admiring some of his lesser seen bowlers. Woolwich Ferry took the bait of some rarely viewed toilet, that a succession of our bowlers seemed able to serve up, almost at will. In between the carnage Duckie, Limahl, Lofty, and the Tongue, each helped themselves to wickets. Makker and Tongue even had the time to try and out wide each other, as the Ferry attempt fell far short of the target. Post match rave ups were somewhat muted as Spud voiced his dissatisfaction in the manner of our victory. However the London Pride was rather super!
