Match Report
Tuesday 25 June –v- Greenwich and Bexley Health at Avery Hill Park
With Tubby Clark absent, at the All Herefordshire Pie-eating Contest, (his brother wasn’t invited), Craig Nelson made his debut. The toss was won and we made an unspectacular start. Craig was soon back in the hutch, falling to connect with the hoick shot he had practiced on most deliveries. Gordy joined Lewey, to stabilise the innings, before he fell to a stumping that he just couldn’t be bothered about. A fairly satisfactory 120 was finally posted courtesy of some late hitting from Danglers and Slack, after the latter had run out the ever alert and backing-up Jim. Effective running between the wickets, including the use of the leg-bye and some selective big hitting, enabled GBH to keep our target firmly in their sights. With two overs remaining GBH required 24 to win. Six balls later and Kommandant Timms had gone AWOL, after watching Gordy’s equivalent of a Malcolm Nash. The target was down to nine, with responsibility for the last over resting on the ex-nob. A first league format defeat was averted, by some accurate deliveries combined with urgency in the field that had been sadly lacking in recent games. Chris Wilsdon completed a fine all round display.
